Annual Operation Love Letter

Family members of fallen soldiers from Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring gathered together to release balloons into the sky with love letters attached to them in their memory, Feb. 23. Survivor Outreach Services, an Army program, hosts Operation Love Letters to bring together family members of Fallen Soldiers from recent wars. During the event, family members took a moment to introduce their Fallen Soldier to one other, write a special letter to their fallen hero, and later attach the letter to a balloon to be released into the sky.

2017 training outlook at Fort McCoy includes new exercises, expanded courses

Sgt. 1st Class Dunny Bailey and Master Sgt. Jack O’Brien, both instructors supporting the 13th Battalion, 100th Regiment at Fort McCoy, check teaching material while completing a program-of-instruction review Oct. 26 of the 89B Ammunition Specialist Course taught by the battalion. During fiscal year 2017, the battalion will see an increase in number of students training at Fort McCoy as the unit adds an Advanced Leadership Course, Senior Leadership Course, and other courses to its curriculum.
Army Reserve Soldier finds comfort in heavy metal

Staff Sgt. Brad Miller, a public affairs non-commissioned officer with the U.S. Army Reserve's 326th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment in Reading, Pennsylvania, performs Jan. 28 with his band Divination. The show marked the last performance for the band. Miller and some of his bandmates are now in a new band, Whatever This Is. Miller has been performing since coming off of active duty in 1998.
Army Reserve Soldiers learn to connect and reconnect at Strong Bonds event

Couples hold hands during an exercise Jan. 27 as part of a 99th Regional Support Command Strong Bonds event in Baltimore, Maryland. Strong Bonds is a unit-based, chaplain-led program which assists commanders in building individual resiliency by strengthening the Army Family. The core mission of the Strong Bonds program is to increase individual Soldier and Family member readiness through relationship education and skills training.

Bell, Torres and five other Army Reserve Soldiers constructed several wooden garden beds to help revive Orlando’s Colonialtown North Community Garden to its former, greener glory. Directed by Green Works Orlando in conjunction with the NFL’s Environmental Program, the garden’s revival was one of the many community projects both organizations managed to lighten the environmental footprint produced by the tens of thousands of football fans who have flocked to The City Beautiful to watch the NFL’s first Pro Bowl game to take place in the Continental U.S. since 1979.
