361st Civil Affairs Brigade wraps up Saber Strike 18 support

The 361st Civil Affairs Brigade completed their civil affairs, public affairs, personnel accountability, casualty liaison and movement control support to units during U.S. Army Europe's exercise Saber Strike 18.

The exercise took place in multiple locations throughout Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland, June 3 to 15. 

361st CA BDE units that supported Saber Strike 18 included 221st Public Affairs Detachment and 406th Human Resources Company based in Kaiserslautern, 1172nd Movement Control Team from Grafenwoehr, and Charlie Company, 457th Civil Affairs Battalion from Wackernheim. 

Over the course of the exercise, 361st CA BDE Soldiers supported and worked together with multiple active duty units, most notably Germany based units 2d Cavalry Regiment, 30th Medical Brigade and 16th Sustainment Brigade, and 53rd Movement Control Battalion from Fort Eustis, Virginia. 

The 221st PAD provided direct public affairs support to 2CR in producing and distributing imagery, facilitating international media and providing public affairs insight in the eastern European region. The unit also took over U.S. Army Reserve's Instagram during the exercise with an audience of approximately 100,000 followers highlighting the efforts of 361st CA BDE through posts and daily Instagram stories. 

The 406th HR CO’s personnel accountability teams received approximately 1,100 active duty, National Guard, and USAR Soldiers arriving in multiple locations across Poland to support the exercise.

The 1172nd MCT processed approximately 3,000 vehicles at three locations across Poland, the majority belonging to 2CR who crossed the Lithuanian border, June 7.

The C/457 conducted over 30 engagements with local civil authorities throughout Poland and Lithuania while working alongside 2CR and host nation civil-military cooperation soldiers. 

Participating in Saber Strike 18 increased the brigade’s readiness by building teamwork within the total Army, including active duty, National Guard and Reserve forces. The exercise also provided a multi-national, integrated, productive environment where units can enhance their collective capability to respond as one fighting force.

Saber Strike is a long-standing U.S. Army Europe-led cooperative training exercise that helps facilitate cooperation amongst the U.S., Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and 19 other allied and partner nations.
