Parade participants walk on stilts, carrying large Italian flags, during the 2019 67th Annual Columbus Day Parade in the City of Chicago, October 14, 2019. The Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans sponsored the parade that showcased nearly 110 marching units and floats from various community and ethnic organizations. “Food and Culture” was the theme of this year’s parade. One of the newest attractions of this year’s parade was the Bersaglieri marching band, a military marching band, which traveled from Sicily to participate in this year’s parade. Brig. Gen. Kris A. Belanger, Commanding General, 85th U.S. Army Support Command and parade honorary Grand Marshall, and Capt. Michael J. Ariola, Public Affairs Officer, 85th USARSC, both of Italian-American heritage, participated in the parade and sharing in Italian American culture and contributions to the nation.
