Chief Warrant Officer 5 David Underwood

Command Chief Warrant Officer, 377th Theater Sustainment Command

U.S. Army Reserve Chief Warrant Officer 5 David L. Underwood is the Command Chief Warrant Officer for the 377th Theater Sustainment Command headquartered in Belle Chasse, Louisiana.  He serves as the principal advisor to the Commanding General on Warrant Officer affairs. He is committed to improving individual Soldier and unit readiness throughout the command implementing a positive and comprehensive Warrant Officer mentorship program.  Moreover, he leverages the talents, skills, and abilities of the Warrant Officer cohort developing leaders at all levels.

CW5 Underwood enlisted in the Army in February 1986. He began his career as Light Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic in the Army Reserve where he served with the 952nd Engineer Company (Combat Heavy) in Paris, TX.  Mr. Underwood served in multiple positions as an enlisted member and Non-Commissioned Officer culminating as the Senior Mechanic for the 327th Chemical Company, Houston, TX. In April 1997, CW5 Underwood was selected as a Warrant Officer Candidate and successfully completed the United States Army Warrant Officer Candidate Course in March 1998. 

CW5 Underwood’s Warrant Officer assignments include Maintenance Technician 1002nd Quartermaster Company, Port Arthur, TX; Battalion Maintenance Technician, 348th Transportation BN, Houston, TX; Battalion Maintenance Technician, 469th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Mountain View, CA; Brigade Maintenance Technician 1190 Deployment Support Command, Baton Rouge, LA; Maintenance Advisor, 99th Regional Support Command, Coraopolis, PA; Readiness Inspector, Command Readiness Team, United States Army Reserve Command, Ft. McPherson, GA; Senior Maintenance Advisor, Military Intelligence Readiness Command, Ft. Belvoir, VA, and Senior Maintenance Advisor, 377th Theater Sustainment Command, Belle Chasse, LA.  CW5 Underwood has several deployments in support of combat operations including Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Central America. He also provided humanitarian support to multiple operations to include operations in Honduras, Belize, and Panama.      

CW5 Underwood holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from the University of Houston – Downtown, Houston, TX, and a Master of Arts in Transportation and Logistics Management from the American Military University, Charles Town, WV. CW5 Underwood completed all levels of the Warrant Officer Education System culminating with the Warrant Officer Senior Service Education course. 

His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, 4 Meritorious Service Medals, 4 Army Commendation Medals, 6 Army Achievement Medals, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with 9 Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, the Iraq Campaign Medal with 2 campaign stars, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 2 campaign stars the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal with 2 Campaign Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the NATO medal, 2 Humanitarian Service Medals and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with gold hourglass and M device. CW5 Underwood was also awarded the Combat Action Badge. 

CW5 Underwood lives in Belle Chasse, LA with his wife. He is a retired Federal Law Enforcement Officer with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.  He enjoys fishing the beautiful Gulf Coast waters and golfing.
