Sgt. 1st Class Gregory Witherspoon, the supply sergeant of the 80th Training Command’s headquarters company, operates a string trimmer on the headquarters grounds, Richmond Va., July 14, 2016. Realizing that the contractors responsible for maintaining the grounds of the 80th Training Command headquarters were only responsible for cutting the grass, Soldiers and civilians assigned to the headquarters, decided to do something about it.  
They fought insects in 90 degree plus temperature for three days cleaning up debris and unsightly weeds around the building. 
“The Soldiers and civilians got back to the basics of policing their area,” said Michael Bland, the 80th TC’s chief executive officer. “In the current military environment, we have come to rely too much on contractors to handle that type of work.”
