MUSCATATUCK URBAN TRAINING CENTER, Ind. - A search and rescue team from the Army Reserve’s 409th Engineer Company, Windsor, Colorado, transport a simulated casualty to a chemical decontamination and treatment facility during a nighttime search and rescue training exercise at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, April 29. The training was part of Guardian Response 22, a multicomponent Homeland Emergency Response Exercise run by the Army Reserve’s 78th Training Division. Search and rescue teams were responsible for evaluating chemical threats, locating and extracting simulated casualties from a simulated multistory building which experienced an explosion with chemical contamination. To be successful in the scenario, teams needed to evaluate the chemical threat of the building, locate and assess casualties and determine how to safely remove the casualties from the scene.
