Command Sgt. Maj. Raymond L. Brown was born in Tonopah, Nevada in December of 1965. He was self-employed in the construction business from 1980 until joining the Army in 1990.

Following Basic Training, he reported to Fort Gordon, Georgia for 18 months of Advanced Individual Training in Satellite Communications Maintenance and Operations, and Satellite Network Operations and Control, graduating with honors. Command Sgt. Maj. Brown was assigned to Bravo Detachment, United States Army Space Command as a Satellite Network Controller. He was assigned to various Space and Strategic Defense Command elements within Germany, where he served as a Team Leader, Squad Leader, and Platoon Sergeant within company formations. Shortly before his departure from the Active Component, Command Sgt. Maj. Brown was the First Sergeant for Charlie Company, 1st Satellite Control Battalion.

Command Sgt. Maj. Brown joined the Military Intelligence Group – Europe in the Reserve Component aligned under the U. S. Army Europe and 7th Army Reserve Command as an Intelligence Analyst in December of 1999 where he served in various intelligence positions and was eventually promoted to Sergeant Major. In 2009 he was assigned as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Joint Reserve Intelligence Support Element aligned under USEUCOM's Joint Analysis Center in Molesworth, England. He served as the Command Sergeant Major for the 457th Civil Affairs Battalion from November 2011 to April of 2014; and subsequently served at the 361s Civil Affairs Brigade from April 2014 to May 2016. Command Sgt. Maj. Brown was mobilized for one year in November of 2001 for Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in support of U.S. Army Europe G-2, and served an active duty tour for 15 months starting in April of 2006 as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Joint Intelligence Operation Center – Europe, Intelligence Mission Operation Center, USEUCOM J-2 in Stuttgart Germany. COMMAND SGT. MAJ. Brown’s civilian occupation is as an Army Civilian GS-13 Station Manager at the Landstuhl DoD Satellite Communications Gateway.

Command Sgt. Maj. Brown completed Bachelor’s of Science degrees in Management of Information Systems in 1998 and Computer Science in 2001. He graduated the Sergeant Major Academy in June 2005.
His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Reserve Components Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device, Non-Commissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon with “4” affixed, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Basic Air Force Space Operations Badge, Wheeled Driver’s Badge, and Bronze German Marksmanship Badge. Command Sgt. Maj. Brown was presented the honorary Knowlton award for significant contributions to the Military Intelligence Corps.

Command Sgt. Maj. Brown’s wife, Solveig, is from Germany and practices medicine. Their two sons, Vincent and Victor, attend college and their daughter, Vivienne, attends high school in the local area.
