The Family Advocacy Program (FAP) is an interdisciplinary and multilayered initiative regulated by the Department of Defense (DOD) to address domestic abuse, child abuse and neglect, and problematic sexual behavior in children and youth (PSB-CY) from a non-clinical perspective. FAP supports, guides and coordinates access to services and resources based within communities.
The Army Reserve FAP works by cultivating partnerships with military installations and local resources to provide essential support services where families live and are assigned. It incorporates prevention methodologies, education, and training initiatives to facilitate awareness around the scope of child abuse and neglect, domestic abuse, and problematic sexual behavior in children and youth. The FAP’s intent is to promote victim safety and wellness, influence parental competence, and facilitate collaborative and cooperative intervention. The FAP program is administered in accordance with guidance from AR 608-18, 32 CFR Part 61, Department of Defense Directive 6400.1, Department of Defense 6400.1–M, and Department of Defense Instructions 6400.2, 6400.3, and 1402.5.
New Parent Support Program (NPSP). This program provides connections to community-based support-services for expectant parents and parents of children from birth to 3 years of age. NPSP sets forth to promote resilient families and healthy parenting skills to prevent child abuse, neglect, and domestic abuse within the Army Reserve. NPSP will assist Soldiers transition into parenthood to provide a nurturing environment for children, help Soldiers manage the demands of parenting, increase knowledge of child development, and build a supportive network.
Problem Sexual Behavior in Children and Youth (PSB-CY) This program provides connection to community-based support-services to families with children and youth under the age of 18 exhibiting or experiencing sexually related behavioral issues.
We Do:
Case Management:
- Customized non-clinical intervention measures based on individual needs and risk/safety assessment.
- Serves as a liaison between Soldier, Command Teams and supporting programs.
Unit Support & Education:
- Educate commanders and units on prevention methods and available local resources.
Soldier Assistance:
- Coordinate and connect Soldiers & Family Members to community-based services that help implement short and long-term solutions.
Ways to Report:
Domestic/Sexual Abuse
Restricted: Confidentially disclose the details of assault to specified individuals and receive coordination to medical treatment and counseling, without triggering the official investigative process.
Unrestricted: Serves as an official notice to law enforcement and their chain of command (If victim or offender is military), who will immediately launch an investigation of the assault.
