Colonel Charles A. Jones

415th Chemical Battalion

Colonel Charles A. Jones was born in Richmond, Virginia. 

He was commissioned as an Armor Officer following graduation from Longwood University in 1986.  His active duty assignments included 1st   Battalion 35th Armor in Erlangen, West Germany.  While in Germany, he was platoon leader and  Company Executive Officer of B Company. 

He was selected amongst his peers as the Battalion Mortar Platoon Leader, a one year assignment.  To complete his active tour, he was assigned Liaison Officer in the S3 section, for the 1st Battalion 35th Armor, 1st Armor  Division. Colonel Jones separated from active duty at Fort Dix, NJ in June 1991.  He reported for duty at the 377th Chemical Company in April 1998 as the Company Executive  Officer.  Upon promotion to Captain, he was assigned to the 485th Chemical Battalion and served as the Assistant S3. 

In May 2000 he then took Command of HHD, 485th Chemical Battalion.  Upon promotion to the rank of Major, he served as the Battalion Executive Officer.  During Operation Iraqi Freedom 01, Major Jones was transferred to the 309th Medical Group as the Group Chemical Officer.  During this assignment, he was selected for the Group S3 position. After a one year assignment, he returned to the 485th as the Battalion Executive Officer.  

Immediately upon his return to the 485 CBRN BN, he was selected as Acting Battalion Commander.  Upon promotion to Lieutenant Colonel and selection from the command board, he was appointed as the 485th Chemical Battalion Commander. Upon  completion of his command tenure, he was then selected as the Chief of Staff for 415th CBRN Brigade.  

Colonel Jones is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic Course, Chemical Advance Officer Course, Chemical Defense Course, Combined Arms Staff Course (CASQ), ILE 1st Army OC/T Academy, Airborne School. Regards to civilian education, Colonel Jones received a BS degree in Sociology and a Masters degree in Education.  His awards include Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, and the Army Achievement Medal.
