Command Sgt. Maj. Rodney A. Davenport

Senior Enlisted Advisor, Deployment Support Command

Command Sergeant Major Rodney Davenport is from Franklinville, NC and has over 25 years of service in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve. In October of 1998 he joined the U.S. Army and completed Infantry One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Ft. Benning, GA in March of 1999.

Following completion of the Infantry OSUT, he was assigned to the 3rd BN, 7th INF Regt. in Ft. Stewart, GA from March 1999 to June 2000.  After his assignment at Ft. Stewart, he was assigned to the Retention and Recruiting School at Ft. Jackson, SC and upon competition was assigned as a field recruiter in Greensboro, NC from August 2000 to October 2002. After his separation from active duty in October 2002, CSM Davenport entered into the Army Reserve that same month.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 485th Regiment in High Point, NC; where he earned his Drill Sergeant Badge in June of 2004.  He mobilized in September 2006 until January 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a combat advisor to the Iraqi National Police.  During this mobilization, he served in several roles to include: S6 NCOIC, Operations NCO and S2 NCOIC.  CSM Davenport mobilized again with the 75th Battle Command Training Group and served as the Operations SGM, as well as, an OC/T and Battle Staff NCO at Ft. Dix, NJ from June 2010 to August 2011.  He was then assigned to the 1st Battalion, 323rd Regiment in Cary, NC where he served as the interim 1SG until his promotion to 1SG. CSM Davenport mobilized again in August 2013 until August 2014 and served as the 1SG for B-Co, Task Force Marshall, Camp McCrady, SC.  CSM Davenport was then assigned to the Office of Internal Review, 108th TC in Charlotte, NC prior to taking over duties as the HHC 1SG from August 2014 to June 2017 until his promotion to Command Sergeant Major that month.  CSM Davenport was then assigned as the BN CSM for the 3rd Battalion, 518th Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 98th Training Division in Hickory, NC. CSM Davenport was then assigned as the BDE CSM for the 804th Medical Brigade, 3rd Medical Command, at Ft. Devens, MA. CSM Davenport was then assigned the BDE CSM for the 209th Regional Support Group, 76th ORC, in Kansas City, MO. CSM Davenport currently serves as the CSM for the Army Reserve Deployment Support Command in Birmingham, AL.

CSM Davenport’s awards and decorations include: The Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal w/ 3 OLC; Army Commendation Medal w/ 1 OLC;  Army Achievement Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Good Conduct Medal; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal w/ 3 OLC; National Defense Service Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star; Global War on Terrorism Medal; Armed Forces Service Medal; Military Outstanding Service Volunteer Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Bronze Hourglass; “M” Device; NCO Professional Development Ribbon with Bronze “5” Device;  Army Service Ribbon; Army Overseas Service Ribbon; NATO Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Drill Sergeant Badge; Gold Recruiter Badge with 3 Sapphire Achievement Stars; and Driver’s Badge with Driver-Wheeled Vehicle Clasp. 

CSM Davenport has completed all NCOES up through the US Army Sergeants Major Academy. He has also completed the TRADOC IET CC/FS Pre-Command Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, Drill Sergeant School, Recruiting School, Instructor School, BN & BDE Pre-Command Courses, BN & BDE Command Sergeants Major Development Programs, Reserve Components National Security Course and has been certified as an OC/T.

CSM Davenport is a graduate of Kaplan University with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.

CSM Davenport is a retired Deputy Sheriff and during his career served in several positions to include Patrol Officer; Background Investigator; Legal Process Deputy; and Vice/Narcotics Detective. He was a member of the SWAT team with seven years on the Entry Team and 10 years on the Sniper Team. CSM Davenport is also a certified Criminal Justice Instructor.

CSM Davenport is married with four children.
