July 9, 2020 — A need for a summer job changed the trajectory of Gina Great's life. Between semesters at Concordia University-Wisconsin, the Missouri-native needed a job to remain financially independent from her parents. It's unclear how she stumbled upon the Army Reserve, but an offer of a cash bonus, and opportunity to "manage the battlefront," got her into the recruiters' office. She walked out — a generator mechanic. "I didn't know what the inside of my car looked like," she laughed. "I panicked. July 2, 2020 — In a town so small that you can’t date anyone because it’s likely they’re related, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Delmar Davis III had two options. Stay and work on his grandfather’s farm, picking soybeans and sweet potatoes in the Georgia heat or do something different. He chose something different. Davis grew up in Henderson, 40 miles south of Macon. His whole family lives there, including his mom Patricia, a department manager at Walmart.
