Maj. Gen. Matthew S. Warne

Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Reserve Command

Maj. Gen. Matthew Warne assumed responsibility as the Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Reserve Command on 1 June 2026. He oversees 15 Army Reserve Operational, Functional, Training, and Support Commands in the Continental United States, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Germany, totaling over 175,000 Soldiers and 10,000 Civilians. Prior to this assignment, he served as the Commanding General of the 412th Theater Engineer Command.

Born in Wilkes Barre, VA, Major General Warne entered the U.S. Army upon graduation from Drexel University in 1993 with a bachelor’s in science in Civil Engineering. He was commissioned in the Corps of Engineers and served on active duty with the 937th Engineer group, 1st Infantry Division.

He transitioned to the U.S. Army Reserve and served in multiple command and staff positions in the 854th Engineer Battalion, 411th Engineer Brigade, 412th Theater Engineer Command, 416th Theater Engineer Command, and the 75th Training Command.

Additionally, he has served as the Commanding General, 102nd Training Division (Maneuver Support) and the Deputy to the Commanding General for Mobilization and Training for the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence (MSCoE); Deputy Commanding General - Operations, 412th Theater Engineer Command; Deputy Chief of Staff - Operations, 416th Theater Engineer Command; and Deputy Chief of Staff – Plans, 412th Theater Engineer Command.

Major General Warne has deployed in support of contingency operations as an Engineer Platoon Leader, 568th Engineer Company (CSE), Operation Uphold Democracy, Haiti; Civil Engineer, 411th Engineer Brigade, Operation Iraqi Freedom II, Balad, Iraq; Battalion Operations Officer, 512th Engineer Battalion, Operation Iraqi Freedom II Balad, Iraq; and Brigade Operations Officer, 411th Engineer Brigade, Operation Enduring Freedom XII, Bagram, Afghanistan.

Major General Warne is a graduate of the Engineer Officer Basic Course, U.S. Army Ranger School, Engineer Officer Advance Course, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Command General and Staff College, Joint Combined Warfighting School-Hybrid, and the United States Army War College and Capstone program.

Major General Warne's personal awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (1), Bronze Star Medal (1), Meritorious Service Medal (with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (1), Army Achievement Medal (3), Combat Action Badge, Ranger Tab, Airborne Badge, Meritorious Unit Citation, and the Engineer Association Silver de Fleury Medal.
