COVID-19 complicated college and graduation for virtually every student in the US. For Sgt. Melanie Workman, a Soldier with the 75th Field Hospital, and student at Georgia State University, COVID-19 has been life changing.

Behavioral health team supports University Hospital

The Behavioral Health team worked out of several areas at University hospital: Emergency Psychiatric, Inpatient Psychiatry, and Chaplains Office. I worked out of the Chaplains office and with Nurse Manager we provided psychological support for the Hospital staff, who have gone through so much. The team and I also worked closely with the Associate Director for Nursing on development and implementation of a staff resilience program.

I was excited to potentially be involved in this mission and I knew that critical care nurses were likely going to be in demand so I volunteered immediately. Even though I was still very new to the military I felt confident that my experience as a critical care nurse would still be a valuable asset to the mission

I am thankful for what I have experienced. It has been an event of a lifetime. I am grateful to everyone who has helped me get through this process. I am lucky to have had the command we had, my friends here that have become family, and the opportunity to have been in these patients lives to try and make a difference.

528th COSC expands tele-behavioral health capabilities
