Sgt. Workman balances COVID-19 response and college graduation
June 2, 2020 — COVID-19 complicated college and graduation for virtually every student in the U.S. For Sgt. Melanie Workman, a Soldier with the 75th Field Hospital and a student at Georgia State University, COVID-19 has been life-changing. For Workman, her final semester before graduating was very difficult to stay on top of, “School started back up the same day that I was activated for a COVID-19 support mission with the Army Reserve. I was at my mobilization base as classes were starting, I was literally clicking between screens of class lectures and FEMA training courses as I prepared to mobilize.”... MORE

Behavioral health team supports University Hospital
May 31, 2020 — When we arrived at University Hospital in New Jersey, there was no other spot as far forward in the COVID fight. First arriving, you are excited and scared at the same time, but you adapt, find your job focus and get the job done. We quickly learned, no one Soldier or civilian could do it alone. I was the officer In charge (OIC) for our behavioral health team. The BH team worked out of several areas at the hospital: emergency psychiatric, inpatient psychiatry, and chaplains office. I worked out of the chaplains office and with nurse manager we provided psychological support for the Hospital staff, who have gone through so much. The team and I also worked closely with the associate director for nursing on development and implementation of a staff resilience program... MORE

Newly commissioned officer supports UAMTF
May 28, 2020 — For many Army Reserve medical officers, they have a career filled with deployments and medical support missions to prepare them for the unexpected. This is not the case for 1st Lt. Michael Dolan, a 66S, critical care nurse, who has only two drill weekends under his belt. Looking back on the mission and forward on starting his military career, Dolan said, “This experience has been lifechanging for me. I feel like I have had the opportunity to really answer the call in a time of need for my country. The people I have gotten to know and experience that I have gained from this mission will be with me forever.” ... MORE

I was excited to potentially be involved in this mission and I knew that critical care nurses were likely going to be in demand so I volunteered immediately. Even though I was still very new to the military I felt confident that my experience as a critical care nurse would still be a valuable asset to the mission

Spc. Kelsea LeBlanc discusses COVID-19 support
May 28, 2020 — Spc. Kelsea LeBlanc is a 68W, Combat Medic with UAMTF 804-1. LeBlanc is a resident of Attleboro, Massachusetts, and shares her story, in her own words, about being called to support the whole of government response to COVID-19 with UAMTF 804-1. I am a paramedic/firefighter on the civilian side and was at the firehouse going about my normal business. On March 26th, I received multiple texts advising me to pack and get prepared to be called to respond, but no information as to where or when. I just knew that I to go home and pack and get ready to go. I had always known there was a chance of needed activation in the Army Reserve, something I had never experienced before. I am thankful for what I have experienced. It has been an event of a lifetime. I am grateful to everyone who has helped me get through this process. I am lucky to have had the command we had, my friends here that have become family, and the opportunity to have been in these patients lives to try and make a difference.

UAMTF Combat Medic Looks Back on COVID-19 Support
May 11, 2020 — Spc. Randall Mulkins, a 68W, Combat Medic, was part of UAMTF 804-2 working with FEMA supporting COVID-19 support at the Javtis Center. Now, at Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst, N.J., Mulkins looks back at service in Covid-19 response as part of the whole-of-nation effort. Supporting this mission was especially meaningful for Mulkins, saying. “I was born and raised in Patterson, N.Y., a small town north of New York City where a lot of residents commute to the city for work. I have friends back home who work in the FDNY, NYPD and other public services within the city.” ... MORE
