88th Regional Support Command celebrates 100 years
August 22, 2017 — The 88th RSC was first stood up during World War I as part of the National Army. Then named, the 88th Division was constituted on Aug. 5, 1917 and organized at Camp Dodge, Iowa on Aug. 25, 1917. Less than a year later, the 88th Division deployed to France from July 1918 to September 1918. From there the division participated in the Alsace Campaign and received their first streamer. The division returned home to Camp Dodge and was demobilized on June 10, 1919 and reconstituted in the Organized Reserve on June 24, 1921. The 88th Division remained there until 1942... MORE

First Army helps build a more mobile force of ready reserve

U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers assigned to the 718th Engineer Company, based in Fort Benning, Ga., assess a site to improve a berm in order to place a fuel blivets, a collapsible tank, during Combat Support Training Exercise 91-17-03, July 18, 2017 at Fort Hunter Liggett, Calif. Approximately 5,000 Army Reserve and National Guard forces participated in the exercise. First Army provided about 65 observer coach/trainers to augment their Army Reserve partners at the 91st Training Division and assist in training the most capable, combat-ready and lethal federal reserve force in the history of the nation.

A salute battery assigned to Alpha Battery, 2nd Battalion, 122nd Field Artillery Regiment, Illinois Army National Guard, fires 105mm blank howitzer rounds at the 85th Support Command headquarters in Arlington Heights, Ill., July 9, 2017. Brig. Gen. Frederick R. Maiocco Jr., 85th Support Command commanding general, relinquished the command colors to Maj. Gen. Tracy A. Thompson, Deputy Commanding General for Support, U.S. Army Reserve. The Army Reserve’s 85th Support Command, partnered with First Army, is made up of 46 Army Reserve battalions, nine brigade support elements, and nearly 4,300 Soldiers and Civilians spanning the continental United States and Puerto Rico. The units generate combat-ready units and Soldiers for the Army that are trained, equipped and lethal to win the nation’s wars.

Army Reserve general meets with Gold Star Families in Memorial Day ceremonies
June 5, 2017 — The songs of the Armed Forces filled the air, as the sound of feet hitting the ground in unison echoed through the streets. Onlookers filled the sidewalks cheering and thanking service members for their service; also there, quietly weeping with both sorrow and joy, were the Gold Star Families remembering their loved ones that they lost, and also in awe of the support they received. ... Command Sgt. Maj. Vernon Perry III, Command Sergeant Major, 85th Support Command shakes the hand of Shelby Iubel, wife of Pfc. Tyler Iubelt, thanking her for the sacrifice her husband made. Iubelt, who served with the First Cavalry Sustainment Brigade, was killed in Afghanistan on November 12, 2016. S. Iubelt said she was honored to see so many people reach out to show her and her mother-in-law so much love and support. Iubelt and her mother-in-law were recognized for their sacrifice during the Wreath Laying ceremony at the Richard J. Daley Plaza on May 27, 2017 in Chicago.

The orientation gave battalion command teams and Brigade Support Element staffs assigned to 85th Support Command, but operationally controlled by First Army, a better understanding of the practices and procedures that make up the hybrid relationship between First Army and the 85th SPT CMD.

Maiocco Jr., Commanding General, 85th Support Command, explains during a New Command Teams Orientation brief on May 20, 2017 in Arlington Heights, Ill. why it is so important to understand the unique partnership between the 85th SPT CMD and First Army. He shared that First Army is an “executive agent for training and training validation” in the Army. And the 85th Support Command is embedded as an operationally controlled element of First Army, and it is critical that we are synchronized to support that mission.

Headquarters staff hits marksmanship with high qualification rate
April 6, 2017 — The air smelled of carbon as Soldiers, assigned to the 85th Support Command headquarters, fired rounds at their targets down range. One-by-one rounds from each muzzle blazed a path, in many cases finding center mass of their goal... MORE

Robert Cooley, Deputy Commander, 85th Support Command, engages his targets on the M9 qualification range during the headquarters individual weapons qualification at Joliet Training Area, Apr. 1, 2017. The headquarters staff spent one battle assembly day at the range to qualify on the M16 rifle and M9 pistol achieving a 100 percent qualification rate on the M-16 and an 88 percent qualification rate on the M9.

The Army Reserve’s 3/335th Training Support Battalion, based out of Fort Sheridan Illinois, per-forms battalion physical training on March 28, 2017 at Fort Hood, Texas. The 3/335th TSBn re-cently arrived to Fort Hood, Texas for a one-year mobilization to train Army Reserve and Na-tional Guard units for overseas deployments in support of operational needs of the Army and our joint partners.
