The U.S. Army Reserve’s 99th Readiness Division hosted a Yellow Ribbon event Sept. 12-14 at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown. Rev. Dr. Paul V. McCullough III, Army Reserve Ambassador for Pennsylvania, served as keynote speaker for the event. Yellow Ribbon events span the deployment cycle - pre-deployment prep, mid-tour virtual check-ins and post-deployment reintegration - to connect families with vital resources, all backed by the program’s emphasis on family well-being. U.S. Army Reserve Officer Candidate Joseph De Angelis, a movement control specialist with the 793rd Movement Control Team, 510th Regional Support Group poses for a photo Wednesday, Apr. 17, 2024, at the Port of Kalundborg, Denmark. De Angelis oversaw the reception, staging, and onward movement of sensitive and HAZMAT cargo. The 793rd is a specialized unit, trained on all aspects of sending and receiving personnel and cargo in support of U.S. missions across the globe. De Angelis works as a U.S. customs agent at U.S. Army installation Baumholder, in Germany. "I'm usually redeploying cargo back to the states," he said. "It's interesting to be on the receiving end and being able to use my civilian skills and knowledge to develop a complete picture of the process." De Angelis said his team collaborated seamlessly with the Danish team. "We used our battle assembly time to make sure we had all necessary systems accesses, were in contact with our host nation assets, and assign roles and delegate tasks," he said. "When we got on ground, our team knew who they'd be working with from the Danish team and were able to integrate quickly." DEFENDER, U.S. Army Europe - Africa's largest annual training event, is a three-phase exercise, designed to demonstrate the ability of U.S. forces to rapidly deploy in support of ally and partner nations. The 7th Mission Support Command is the U.S. Army Reserve presence in Europe. Comprised of 26 units across Germany and Italy, the 7th MSC provides logistical and sustainment resources in support of U.S. Army Europe and Africa missions across the theater.
