First Army helps build a more mobile force of ready reserve

U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers assigned to the 718th Engineer Company, based in Fort Benning, Ga., assess a site to improve a berm in order to place a fuel blivets, a collapsible tank, during Combat Support Training Exercise 91-17-03, July 18, 2017 at Fort Hunter Liggett, Calif. Approximately 5,000 Army Reserve and National Guard forces participated in the exercise. First Army provided about 65 observer coach/trainers to augment their Army Reserve partners at the 91st Training Division and assist in training the most capable, combat-ready and lethal federal reserve force in the history of the nation.

Liquid logisticians rule at QLLEX 2017

U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers with the 728th Quartermaster Company, Fremont, Neb., operate an
Inland Pipeline Distribution System during QLLEX 2017, July 21, at Fort Bragg, NC. QLLEX, short for Quartermaster Liquid Logistics Exercise, is the U.S. Army Reserve’s premier readiness exercise for fuel and water distribution. This year’s QLLEX is not only a full demonstration of the capability, combat-readiness, and lethality of America’s Army Reserve to put fuel and water where it is needed most – in the vehicles and hands of the war-fighter and maneuver units – but it also further exercises the interoperability of the U.S. Army Reserve alongside active Army and British Army logisticians. Command Sgt. Maj. Vernon Perry III, Command Sergeant Major, 85th Support Command shakes the hand of Shelby Iubel, wife of Pfc. Tyler Iubelt, thanking her for the sacrifice her husband made. Iubelt, who served with the First Cavalry Sustainment Brigade, was killed in Afghanistan on November 12, 2016. S. Iubelt said she was honored to see so many people reach out to show her and her mother-in-law so much love and support. Iubelt and her mother-in-law were recognized for their sacrifice during the Wreath Laying ceremony at the Richard J. Daley Plaza on May 27, 2017 in Chicago.

Army Reserve command teams meet to enhance readiness efforts

Command Sgt. Maj. Julio Alvarez, command sergeant major of 3rd Battalion, 348th Training Support Regiment, 177th Armored Brigade, takes in remarks shared between briefers and attendees during a New Command Teams Orientation held at 85th Support Command Headquarters in Arlington Heights, Ill., May 19-20, 2017. The orientation gave battalion command teams and Brigade Support Element staffs assigned to 85th Support Command, but operationally controlled by First Army, a better understanding of the practices and procedures that make up the hybrid relationship between First Army and the 85th SPT CMD.

Headquarters staff hits marksmanship with high qualification rate

The headquarters staff spent one battle assembly day at the range to qualify on the M16 rifle and M9 pistol achieving a 100 percent qualification rate on the M-16 and an 88 percent qualification rate on the M9.

Army Reserve Soldiers mobilize to train and equip a ready force

Army Reserve Sgt. Mindy Baptist, observer coach/trainer assigned to the 3/335th Training Support Battalion, based out of Fort Sheridan, Illinois, stretches out after morning battalion physical training exercise. Baptist is on her first mobilization in 11 years of service. The 3/335th TSBn, operationally controlled by First Army, recently began a one-year mobilization to train and equip Army Reserve and National Guard units ahead of overseas deployments to remain effective as the most capable, combat ready and lethal Federal Reserve force in the history of the nation.
