Army Reserve training focuses on personnel readiness

99th RSC boosts readiness through physical security training

More than 50 physical security officers attend the Physical Inspector Officer Training Course hosted by the U.S. Army Reserve’s 99th Regional Support Command July 12-13 at the Timmermann Center on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. The physical security students received training on protection of sensitive items such as weapons and night-vision goggles, proper control of keys and other access-control devices, and structural standards for Army Reserve facilities.

Moton earned his Ph.D. in business administration in 2016, joining a select group of Army Reserve Soldiers who have pursued higher education. Of all doctorates in the U.S. Army, 75 percent reside in the U.S. Army Reserve. Of all master’s degrees in the U.S. Army, 50 percent reside in the U.S. Army Reserve. Having such a highly educated force helps America’s Army Reserve remain the most capable, combat-ready and lethal federal reserve force in the history of the nation.

Army Reserve’s 99th RSC honors veterans past, present

Maj. Gen. Troy. D. Kok, commanding general for the U.S. Army Reserve’s 99th Regional Support Command, greets a veteran May 12 during the 99th RSC’s dining out on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey.  The theme of the event was “Veterans: Then and Now.”  More than 100 veterans from area veteran homes were invited to attend.

Burgos, deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Reserve’s 99th Regional Support Command, gives the keynote speech May 11 at the 10th Annual Freedom Award Nominee and Pro Patria Awards luncheon, hosted by the New Jersey Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.  Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the reserve components through outreach, recognition and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws, and resolves employment conflicts between the service members and their employers.

JBMDL’s Griffith Field House re-opens following $750K transformation

During the  re-opening ceremony for the Col. Jack H. Griffith Jr. Memorial Field House on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, Griffith’s widow Bonnie and daughters Barb and Megan check out a static display illustrating the field house’s history. The field house re-opened May 5 following a 5-month, $750,000 transformation. In addition to receiving a new gym floor and running track, the field house now features energy-efficient lighting and is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Col. Griffith served as Fort Dix chief of staff from March 1984 until his death from cancer in December 1986. He was commissioned as an Infantry officer through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at the University of Virginia, and was a graduate of the Army War College. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam where he was wounded in combat, and served in many other assignments around the world during his 26-year career.

Al Almeida, 99th RSC command sergeant major, affix the Army Superior Unit Award streamer to the 99th RSC Colors during a ceremony April 21 at the command’s headquarters on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. The 99th RSC received the award for providing aid and assistance from October 2012 to April 2013 to communities in New York City that were devastated by Superstorm Sandy.

Mechanics at ECS 27 are busy preparing vehicles and equipment for the 78th Training Division's Warrior Exercise, happening later this month.
