Deployed Field Sanitation Team Training
July 8, 2020
— Soldiers from the 790th MED DET (PM) recently conducted a hybrid Field Sanitation Team training course in Afghanistan. FST training is critical for Soldier safety because it mitigates the risk of disease and non-battle injuries. “Many companies and units do not have organic medical personnel to help implement preventive medicine measures in the deployed environment and with proper FST training, companies and units can better ensure the health and safety of their Soldiers,” said Sgt. Adia Dobbs, Preventive Medicine Specialist, with the 790th MED DET...

Protecting the protectors: Reserve Soldier on front lines helps contain COVID-19 spread
June 24, 2020
— She left for her first Army mission without knowledge of her final destination, or when she’d be able to return home to her two dogs, cat and bearded dragon. As she prepared to leave for the mission in early April, Capt. Holly Beard, an Army Reserve entomologist, had only one certainty: she’d be battling against the spread of a deadly virus...

Childhood tumor leads hockey player to health care career, the Army and COVID-19 battle
June 17, 2020
— He had taken hits on the ice before. But not like this. During a hockey game in 2001, an opponent knocked 13-year-old Jimmy Ennis to the floor and swiped him briskly on the chin. The incident led to the discovery of a brain tumor, and his treatment inspired his future work in health care, which now includes serving as part of an Army Reserve Urban Augmentation Medical Task Force in response to COVID-19...

Medical officer serves others in COVID-19 fight
June 3, 2020
— 1st Lt. James Ennis, resident of Salem, N.H., just completed a deployment to combat COVID-19 at Elmhurst Hospital-Queens as part of an Urban Augmentation Medical Task Force with the U.S. Army Reserve. It has been an honor to represent the Army in this unprecedented time in the battle against COVID-19. To have the U.S. Army Reserve mobilized within the United States working alongside Joint Forces as well as civilians in the epicenter of this pandemic has been life changing. I have never been prouder to be a part of a team that helped people of the United States in one of the most difficult times of their lives...

Sgt. Workman balances COVID-19 response and college graduation
June 2, 2020
— COVID-19 complicated college and graduation for virtually every student in the U.S. For Sgt. Melanie Workman, a Soldier with the 75th Field Hospital and a student at Georgia State University, COVID-19 has been life-changing. For Workman, her final semester before graduating was very difficult to stay on top of, “School started back up the same day that I was activated for a COVID-19 support mission with the Army Reserve. I was at my mobilization base as classes were starting, I was literally clicking between screens of class lectures and FEMA training courses as I prepared to mobilize.”...

Behavioral health team supports University Hospital
May 31, 2020
— When we arrived at University Hospital in New Jersey, there was no other spot as far forward in the COVID fight. First arriving, you are excited and scared at the same time, but you adapt, find your job focus and get the job done. We quickly learned, no one Soldier or civilian could do it alone. I was the officer In charge (OIC) for our behavioral health team. The BH team worked out of several areas at the hospital: emergency psychiatric, inpatient psychiatry, and chaplains office. I worked out of the chaplains office and with nurse manager we provided psychological support for the Hospital staff, who have gone through so much. The team and I also worked closely with the associate director for nursing on development and implementation of a staff resilience program...
