Bastille Day at Fort Stewart
French Brig. Gen. Jean-Pierre Fague, deputy commanding general for the 3rd Infantry Division, left, and Army Reserve Ambassador Luis Carreras, pose for a photo during a Bastille Day commemoration hosted by the 3rd Infantry Division at Alwyn Cashe Memorial Garden, Fort Stewart, Georgia, July 14, 2022. This public holiday celebrated the fall of the Bastille prison and fortress, an event credited with ushering in the French Revolution and the abolishment of feudalism. America and France have been Allie’s for more than 225 years. The 3rd ID, nicknamed the “Rock of the Marne,” has a long history with France and earned its name from its immortal stand against a vicious German offensive in defense of Paris during the Second Battle of the Marne.
