The 5 Ws of Observer Coach/Trainer

1. Training and Mentorship: Army OC/Ts are responsible for observing, coaching, and training Soldiers during exercises. They provide feedback and conduct After Action Reviews (AARs) to enhance unit performance and readiness.
2. Evaluation of Units: They assess the training and operational performance of units, ensuring that they meet the required standards and are prepared for deployment. This includes monitoring safety and adherence to military doctrine during training exercises.
3. Facilitating Training Exercises: OC/Ts facilitate various training events, including Situational Training Exercises (STX) and Mission Readiness Exercises (MRX). They help units develop their training plans and ensure that all necessary skills are covered.
4. OC/T Academy: New OC/Ts undergo training at the OC/T Academy, where they learn essential skills and knowledge to effectively coach and mentor Soldiers. This training includes understanding rules of engagement, safety protocols, and how to conduct AARs.
5. Continuous Improvement: OC/Ts are expected to maintain their skills and knowledge through ongoing training and experience. They play a vital role in developing future leaders by imparting their expertise and ensuring that units are mission ready.
