Juneteenth
On June 19, 1865, the U.S. Army arrived in Galveston, Texas, 2 1/2 years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, with news of the Civil War's end and the end of slavery. Juneteenth recognizes America as a nation committed to human freedom and advancing fundamental issues of justice, morality and humanity.
