Medical Soldiers skills tested at Regional Medic
Lt. Col. Robert Steckler, a general surgeon with the Army Reserve's 479th Medical Detachment, performs a thoracotomy on a surgical cut suit during training at Regional Medic at Fort McCoy, Wis., July 16, 2021. A cut suit is a vest comprised of simulated internal organs used to replicate the look, feel, and smell of severe traumatic events on a live human casualty, allowing first responders and physicians to safely practice performing real surgical procedures. The Army Reserve’s Combat Support Training Program exercises prepare Army Reserve units to be combat-ready by immersing Soldiers in realistic scenarios to train as they would fight.
