Army brat captures highest honors during high school graduation

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico - Jomarly Cruz Galarza, 17, daughter of Sgt. 1st Class Joel Cruz, assigned to the 1st Mission Support Command, U.S. Army Reserve-Puerto Rico, was recognized with the highest academic awards during her high school graduation ceremony held at Centro de Bellas Artes of Guaynabo, May 22.

Among the awards received, Jomarly was recognized with the National Society of High Schools Scholars Award, and an official Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Army Reserve- Puerto Rico 1st Mission Support Command – Family Program Center for her outstanding academic excellence and commitment to the community as a volunteer. 

"Being a military dependent has helped me to grow as a person. Those who think that being a military child is something negative, are wrong. This experience has helped me become a better person. Nothing is impossible," said the young lady in a recent interview. 

Thanks to her 3.98 high school's grade point average, Jomarly has been accepted to the Natural Sciences College at University of Puerto Rico.

Assistant Chief of Staff Lt. Col. Arturo Calzadillas Jr. presented the official U.S. Army recognition on behalf of Brig. Gen. José R. Burgos, commanding general, 1st Mission Support Command.
