U.S. Army Reserve Private Public Partnership (P3O) and Lowe's, Inc. sign Proclamation

By Maj. Rob Stubbs USARC

The Deputy Commanding General of U.S. Army Reserve Command (USARC) and the Executive Vice President of Lowe's Stores sign a Private Public Partnership Office (P3O) Proclamation on November 7th here at Lowe's Headquarters.

The Veteran’s Day event at the Lowe’s Headquarters was in honor of the active service members and Veterans who work for Lowe’s, Inc.  Lowes, the company that started as a small-town hardware store in North Carolina and is now one of the largest home improvement retailers in the world, has a staunch reputation for being military and Veteran friendly.

Their support for the military goes far beyond the ten percent discount it already extends to military members. In 2016, Lowe's received the U.S. Department of Defense Freedom Award, the highest recognition given to employers for supporting the military, particularly employees serving in the Guard and Reserve. Lowes currently employs approximately 5000 active service members, about 2500 employees from the U.S. Army Reserve and the Army National Guard, and an additional 2500 active duty service members working part-time.

During the ceremony, Joe McFarland, the Executive Vice President of Stores and a United States Marine Corps Veteran, welcomed Maj. Gen. Eugene LeBoeuf, Deputy Commanding General of USARC, to sign the Proclamation. The Proclamation, extended from the Office of the Chief of the Army Reserve, reads as follows:

“The U.S. Army Reserve Private Public Partnership Office is proud to announce that Lowe’s Companies, Inc. provides career opportunities for our Soldiers and Family Members.

Lowe's Companies, Inc. hereby proclaims to be a proud supporter of the U.S. Army Reserve and will assist Soldiers and Families in overcoming barriers to obtain meaningful education opportunities that lead to employment to support mission readiness goals, enhance their financial stability and create connections with the community.

The U.S. Army Reserve is proud to partner with this organization!"

Maj. Gen. LeBoeuf addressed the crowd, explaining the P3O program. He praised Lowe’s for being one of P3O’s 238 Partners in over 20 industries who wish to hire U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers and their family members. Maj. Gen LeBoeuf discussed how meaningful employment of U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers, which has over 85% of the force integrated into the civilian workforce, directly translates to the overall readiness of the force.

P3O also helps with the career pathways of family members of Soldiers and transitioning veterans. Lowe's is already in line with P3O's efforts, employing approximately 26,000 military associates, which includes spouses.
