FORT JACKSON, S.C. –
The 81st Readiness Division welcomed its newest commanding general on Oct. 5, 2022, as Maj. Gen. Robert D. Harter assumed command.
Chief of Army Reserve and Commanding General of U.S. Army Reserve Command, Lt. Gen. Jody J. Daniels, presided over the ceremony. She praised the command and its leadership for their tireless commitment to the Army Reserve.
Harter expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. “The history and reputation of the 81st is legendary,” said Harter. “I am honored and humbled to be joining this wonderful team of professionals. I look forward to continuing the great legacy established here.”
Harter is a native of both Alaska and Virginia. He was commissioned in the Field Artillery Corps in 1988, after graduating from Virginia Tech. He comes to the 81st Readiness Division after serving as the Deputy Chief of Army Reserve, Office of the Chief of Army Reserve (OCAR), Army Pentagon, Wash., D.C.
The 81st Readiness Division has responsibility for base operations for Army Reserve units through the Southeastern United States and Puerto Rico, and is responsible for ensuring units and Soldiers are prepared to deploy and fight in multi-domain operations and meet current and future Combatant Commander Force requirements.
