FORT KNOX, Ky. –
Command Sgt. Maj. Scott A. Hinton of Westerville, Ohio, assumed responsibility of the 84th Training Command from Command Sgt. Maj. Larry May during a change of responsibility ceremony held March 6 at Waybur Theater.
Hinton succeeded May who was the senior enlisted leader of the unit since 2018. The ceremony was conducted by Maj. Gen. Miguel A. Castellanos, commanding general of the 84th Training Command, during the March drill.
The new command sergeant major now serves as the training command’s senior enlisted advisor to over 5,000 Soldiers. The 84th Training Command oversees the combat support training and mission command training programs ensuring units from across the Army are trained and ready for deployments.
Hinton is looking forward to the new challenge. He explained that he wants to get Soldiers to their next-level primary military education courses to be eligible for promotion and to support Army Reserve operational commands.
“We need to be partnered at the hip with operational commands. We are a training command that serves up units. We’re there so they can get after their training.”
He and his wife, Sgt. 1st Class (Ret.) Kerri Lynn have three sons—an Air Force veteran and two currently serving in the Air Force.
May, the departing command sergeant major, officially retired after 39 years of service during his retirement ceremony that immediately followed the change of responsibility.
