5th. Med. Bde. Best Warrior Competition

By Sgt. First Class Anthony Mitchell 5th Medical Brigade

The 5th Med. Bde. Conducted their Best Warrior Competition to determine who will represent them at the 3rd Medical Command Deployment Support BWC in early 2020.

The contest was held at Ft. McClellan, where soldiers were tested in physical fitness, Army knowledge, a ruck march and land navigation among others. Six soldiers competed for two titles, Non-Commissioned Officer and Junior Enlisted Best Warriors.

Command Sgt. Major Elijah Moore of the 5th. Med. Bde. presided over the competition, “We’re proud to have been able to put together a good competition for the benefit of the soldiers’ abilities and development.” CSM Moore said of the contest, expressing hopes for bigger and better competitions in the future.

After all points were tallied, Spc. Andrew Smith won the Soldier title and Sgt. Gabriella Non won the NCO title of the BWC. Command Sgt. Maj. Moore commented on the thin margin between competitors’ scores. “About three points separated the top half of the competitors. It was really close and I wish I could send all the warriors to the next level.” Remarked CSM Moore. Sgt. Non and Spc. Smith were awarded the Army Commendation Medal as acknowledgment of their achievement.
