ARMED FORCES RESERVE CENTER, Marysville, WA –
The Evergreen State was in full celebratory mode to mark the 111th anniversary of the U.S. Army Reserve, April 23, hosting ceremonies not only at the 364th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) headquarters in Marysville but also at the State Capitol in Olympia, Washington.
U.S. Congressman Rick Larsen, Washington State Rep. Jeremie Dufault and members of the House of Representatives, Mayor Jon Nehring, Army Reserve Ambassadors Mr. Kurt Hardin and Mrs. Mary Miller, Army Reserve Soldiers and civilians of the 364th ESC, 7th Battalion of the Army Reserve Careers Division, and National Guardsmen based at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Marysville, issued statements of support and participated in a number of activities in recognition of this year’s anniversary.
The day started with a brief ceremony at the Washington State Capitol in Olympia, where Army Reserve Ambassador Kurt Hardin and senior leaders from the 364th ESC were presented a ‘Letter of Recognition’ honoring the Army Reserve and its valuable contribution to the Nation, and followed by a birthday run and cake-cutting ceremony at the 364th ESC headquarters, where Mr. Christopher 'Kit' Larsen, Community Outreach and Military Liaison and a representative for Congressman Larsen, and Mayor Nehring provided key remarks in support of the Army Reserve, ‘Twice the Citizen’ Soldiers and their Families.
Formed April 23, 1908 as the Medical Reserve Corps, today's U.S. Army Reserve has evolved into a global operational reserve force, engaged to support America’s active duty forces.
Today’s Army Reserve is the most capable, combat-ready, and lethal federal reserve force in history of our nation, providing trained and ready forces and critical capabilities wherever needed, anywhere around the world where the Army needs to initiate, sustain, and prevail in major operations.
Through two World Wars, the Cold War, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf War, the Global War on Terror and countless crises, operations, and contingencies, America's Army Reserve has never failed to answer the nation’s call.
