Army Reserve Soldiers of the 409th Engineer Company, Windsor, Colorado, gain access to the second floor of a simulated multistory building during Guardian Response 22, held at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, April 29. The building represented an urban high rise, which experienced an explosion with chemical contamination and multiple casualties. The unit was responsible for evaluating the chemical threat of the building, before entering to assess and evacuate casualties via ladder. The specially-built structure used for the training is one of many unique training environments at Muscatatuck which test first responder and rescue team’s ability to respond to real-world, state-side catastrophes, such as explosions, hurricanes, fires and floods.
