Army Reserve’s suicide prevention program managers conduct break out session training with local community partners during the command’s Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training workshop, Sep. 27-28, 2018. The workshop certifies Soldiers and staff members in skills that help prevent the immediate risk of suicide. The command’s suicide prevention program manager, Carmella Navarro, along with other SPPMs across the country, coordinated the workshop for local community partners that can support people who struggle with suicidal ideations, to include Army Reserve Soldiers living within those communities. Community partners consisted of counselors, first responders, therapists and local citizens. According to Navarro, the resources that are available to an active component Soldier, on their installation, are not necessarily the same for a reserve component Soldier because of the broad and sometimes remote locations that Army Reserve Soldiers are located across the country.
