Crane Army hosts 983rd Engineering Battalion for Annual Training
U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers of the 983rd Engineering Battalion worked on five construction projects designed to improve infrastructure during the unit’s annual training hosted by Crane Army Ammunition located on Naval Support Activity Crane Activity. The 983rd Engineering Battalion’s main line of effort during their time at Crane Army involved the rails to road project. In total the project required the removal of over 2,000 feet of railroad tracks. The project, a unique mission that the Soldiers had not previously been exposed to, involved fifteen personnel and took seven days to complete. “We’ve been working closely with CAAA engineers, and the Navy facilities managers, as well as the independent rail contractors here, and they have done nothing but help us and support us,” 1st Lt. Timothy Bauer said. “The uniqueness of the project is something the troops will be able to take with them anywhere.” Converting the rails to roads will provide CAAA with easier access to magazines that were previously only accessible by rail.
