Army Reserve drill sergeants from the 108th Training Division (IET) participate in a timed three-mile run during the Drill Sergeant of the Year competition at Fort Jackson, S.C., March 22. The three-mile run was a surprise “mystery event” that was sprung on the contestants immediately following the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT), which ended with a two-mile run just minutes beforehand. The purpose of the mystery events is to test the Soldiers on their ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. The top two winners of the contest will go on to compete in the TRADOC Drill Sergeant of the Year competition later this year at Fort Jackson, S.C. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Brandon Rizzo/released)
