Soldier receives Ohio Military Medal of Distinction
The family of Sgt. Gary Eckert, of Toledo, Ohio, and Steve Brunn, Survivor Outreach Services support coordinator, show the Ohio Military Medal of Distinction he was awarded after he was killed in action in Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV May 8, 2005, while serving with the 983rd Engineer Battalion, Monclova, Ohio.
