Honoring
Veterans Day
On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, the “war to end all wars” finally ended. For the next 20 years, “Armistice Day” was observed to honor and remember the more than 100,000 Americans – including 89,400 Soldiers of the Officers’ Reserve Corps, the precursor of the Army Reserve – who fought for freedom in the world’s first “Great War.
Today, we celebrate Veterans Day, a day that honors not just the heroes of World War I, but the millions of men and women who have served our nation, in war and peace, from 1918 to today, knowing that our freedom, and that of every generation to come, rests on the shoulders of those who came before. We also give thanks for the more than 200,000 Citizen Soldiers and Civilians of the Army Reserve, and their Families, who continue to sacrifice every day to ensure the blessings of freedom for us all.
This Veterans Day, I encourage each of you to take the time to honor and remember all who have served our great nation – those who died, those who never returned, those we are blessed to still have with us, and especially our wounded warriors who have sacrificed so much.
It is a privilege to serve with each of you, and to have this opportunity to thank your Families and employers who make your service possible. May God continue to bless you, the Army, and our Nation.
Twice the Citizen!
