Ambassador Andrew Oppmann worked as a reporter, editor or executive for media groups in seven states before joining MTSU in 2010. He helped create and now promotes the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center at MTSU. Oppmann’s service as civilian advocate of the Army Reserve honors his uncles: the late MG Lindsay Freeman, Army Reserve retired, former Commanding General of the 100th Training Division; and COL Bobby Freeman, Army retired, decorated aviator and former Fort Campbell Garrison Commander. Fort Campbell’s main gate, Gate 4, is named in honor of Oppmann’s aunt and COL Freeman’s late wife, CASA T.C. Freeman, for her years of advocacy on behalf of the families of soldiers. Ambassador Oppmann was first appointed in 2019 by LTG Charles D. Luckey, Chief of Army Reserve.
