Major General Brian Alvin

63rd Readiness Division

MG Brian Alvin is a Distinguished Military Graduate of Northern Illinois University, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, Chemical Corps, in May 1984. BG Alvin began his military career in June 1984 at Fort McClellan, Alabama in the Chemical Corps Officer Basic Course. 

MG Alvin’s command and leadership assignments include Platoon Leader, Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 67th Armor, Fort Hood, Texas; Platoon Leader, (Smoke Generator) 44th Chemical Company, 2nd Armored Division, Fort Hood, Texas; Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 807th Medical Brigade, Seagoville, Texas; Team Chief, Public Communications Team, 490th Civil Affairs Battalion, Abilene, Texas and Operation Iraqi Freedom; and Commander, 413th Civil Affairs Battalion, Lubbock, Texas. MG Alvin assumed command of the 645th Regional Support Group, Southfield, Michigan on 1 July 2008 and deployed the Group Headquarters to Kandahar, Afghanistan in May 2011. Upon selection to General Officer, MG Alvin was assigned to the United States Forces Korea as the Director of J4 (Wartime), Individual Mobilization Augmentee. On September 25 2016 MG Alvin assumed command of the 63rd Regional Support Command in Mountain View, California, where he currently serves.

MG Alvin’s key staff assignments include Group Chemical Officer, 341st Medical Group, Seagoville, Texas and Operation Desert Shield/Storm; Assistant Operations Officer, 4th Brigade (CSS), 95th Division (IT), Dallas, Texas; Operations Officer, V Corps G5 Civil Affairs, Operation Iraqi Freedom; Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff, C9 Civil Affairs, Multi National Corps-Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom; Operations Officer, 321st Civil Affairs Brigade, San Antonio, Texas; and Assistant Chief of Staff, J4 (Logistics) United States Forces Korea (IMA). 

MG Alvin received a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering Technology in May 1984 from Northern Illinois University. MG Alvin also holds a Master of Science degree from Texas A&M University, Central Texas; a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Management and Technology, Arlington, Virginia; and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the United States Army War College, Carlisle, PA. MG Alvin’s military schools include the Chemical Officer Basic Course; Chemical Officer Advanced Course; Civil Affairs Officer Advanced Course; Combined Arms and Services Staff School; Command and General Staff College; United States Army War College; and the Advanced Joint Professional Military Education Course. MG Alvin holds the additional skill identifier 3L, Joint Qualified Officer. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Serve Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Badge. 

MG Alvin is married to Bobbette and they have a son.
