Mr. Gary Major

Chief Executive Officer

335th Signal Command (Theater)

Mr. Gary Major became the Command Executive Officer of the 335th Signal Command (Theater), in East Point, Georgia in January 2009. 

 

Mr. Major was born and raised in Wessington, South Dakota.  After completing a four year tour in the Air Force from 1974 until 1979, he enrolled in Moorhead State University, in Moorhead, Minnesota.  He graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Accounting and was commissioned in the Army as a second lieutenant in Air Defense Artillery.  

 

Mr. Major served on active duty in the Army from December 1982 until April 1990.  While on active duty, he served in numerous units and positions while stationed in Grafenwohr, Germany, Fort Bliss, TX, Camp Red Cloud, South Korea and culminating with an assignment to Fort Riley, KS.  He transferred from active duty to the Army Reserve in 1990.

 

Mr. Major began his career as a military technician in August 1990 as a Staff Administrative Assistant (SAA) for the 410th Evacuation Hospital in Topeka, KS. He moved to Kansas City and became SAA at the 326th Area Support Group from June 1991 until March 1994. In March 1994, Mr. Major was promoted to the Supervisory Staff Administrator position with the 450th Transportation Battalion in Manhattan, Kansas where he served until November 1995.  He moved to Wichita, Kansas in November 1995 to assume a position with the 89th Regional Readiness Command (RRC). While assigned with the 89th RRC, he held supervisory positions as a Military Personnel Management Specialist, Civil Military Projects Officer, Internal Auditor, Staff Operations and Training Officer, and Director of Management and Support.

 

Mr. Major continued his military career achieving the rank of colonel and serving in numerous leadership positions such as battalion commander; G-7, 89th Regional Readiness Command; Assistant Chief of Staff, Transportation, 3rd Corps Support Command; Chief of Iraqi Fuel Distribution, CJTF-7; G-3, 3rd Corps Support Command; Commander, 209th Regional Support Group; Chief of Staff, 89th Regional Readiness Command; G-2, G-1 and Chief of Staff for the 335th SC(T).

During his military career, Mr. Major deployed for Operation Desert Storm, Operation Joint Guardian (Bosnia), and Operation Iraqi Freedom.  His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal (with 3 Bronze Service Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Government of Kuwait), the Combat Action Badge and the Parachutist Badge

Mr. Major’s military education includes the Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic and Advance Courses, Combined Arms Service Staff School (CAS3), USAR Unit Movement Officer Course, Senior Transportation Officer Qualification Course, Adjutant General Officer Qualification Course, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, U.S. Army War College, and Reserve Component Multifunctional Combat Service Support Course.
  

Mr. Major and his wife of 27 years, Phyllis, have two sons, David and Christopher.
