Brigadier General Lee Gray

86th Training Division

BG Lee J. Gray assumed command of the 86th Training Division in Fort McCoy, Wisconsin in July 2015. Previously she served as the Deputy Coordinator for Plans and Programs for the Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications (CSCC) in the U.S. Department of State and as the Chief of Legislative Affairs for the Office of the Chief of Army Reserve. 

She has more than 17 years of active duty in her 27-year Army career.

Commanding at the company, battalion and brigade level, BG Gray’s previous assignments include Commander of the 151st Theater Information Operations Group (TIOG) based at Fort Totten in Queens, New York; Chief of Strategic Communication and Integrated Plans, Communication Integration Directorate, U.S. Central Command, Tampa Florida; deployment as the Special Technical Operations Chief and Director of Strategic Plans in the J33, United States Forces- Iraq in Baghdad; Commander of the 314th Public Affairs Operations Center; and Director of Army Public Affairs for the Southeast as a new outreach office during a three-year active duty tour in 2003. 

Her additional assignments include Public Affairs tours with the Military District of Washington, the Office of the Chairman, the Joint Staff and Operation Joint Endeavor in Taszar, Hungary. 

She was commissioned as a Finance Officer in 1988 and served in the 7th Infantry Division, Fort Ord, California, the Multinational Force and Observers, Sinai, Egypt, and as the Executive Officer to the Commandant of the U.S. Army Finance School.

Awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medals, Meritorious Service Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medals, Iraqi Campaign, NATO, Multinational Force and Observers and Joint Meritorious Unit Awards.  She also holds the Office of the Secretary of Defense Staff Identification Badge and the Army Staff Identification Badge.

BG Gray is a Virginia native and has been a Tampa, Florida resident since 2003, where she lives with her husband Tony and daughter Bailly. 

She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from Elon University in North Carolina, a Master’s degree in Journalism from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana as well as a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
