Col. James C. Post assumed duties as Commander, 139th Medical Brigade, on October 1, 2010, after serving as the Command Surgeon for the 807th MDSC. Initially serving as an enlisted Soldier from 1973-1976, Post was a Special Forces light weapons expert and medic. He received a direct commission in the Medical Corps as a captain in 1987. He served as a general surgeon in the 301st Field Hospital, and Commander of Hospital Unit One, 301st Field Hospital, then in a series of positions in the 339th Combat Support Hospital (CSH), including Chief of Professional Services. He was the Commander of the 339th, the first CSH deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan, in 2002. He also served as the Chief Medical Officer, Special Operations Force Firebase Asadabad, in 2004. He served as the Command Surgeon, 99th Regional Readiness Command in 2005, and as the Commander, 2290th U.S. Army Hospital, from 2005 to 2007. He has served on medical readiness exercises to El Salvador and Haiti. He is a graduate of the Army Medical Department Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, as well as Command and General Staff College. Col. Post received a Masters of Strategic Studies from the Army War College in 2009. Col. Post received a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Biological and Medical Sciences from the University of Florida, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1980. He earned a Doctorate of Medicine from the university of Florida College of Medicine, graduating Alpha Omega Alpha in 1983. He did two years of training in pediatrics at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, and completed an otolaryngology residency at the University of Florida’s Shands Teaching Hospital in 1990. He completed a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at the Pittsburgh Children’s hospital, and a PhD in Human Genetics from the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. A practicing pediatric head and neck surgeon, he currently serves as the President, Allegheny Singer Research Institute, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Director, Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology, Allegheny General Hospital; Medical Director, Center for Genomic Sciences, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Professor of Otolaryngology, Drexel University School of Medicine; Professor of Otolaryngology and Microbiology, Temple University College of Medicine; and Associate Dean of Basic Sciences, Temple University College of Medicine.
