Brigadier General Christopher R. Kemp was commissioned in June 1982 from Officer Candidate School. He was assigned to the 711th Signal Battalion, where he served in successive positions as Platoon Leader, Detachment Commander and Company Commander.
After command, he was assigned as a Tactical Officer and instructor with the Officer Candidate School at Fort McClellan, AL. He then returned to the 711th Signal Battalion to serve as the S1, and was later assigned as a member of the Army National Guard Readiness, Training and Evaluation Team.
Upon promotion to major, he assumed the duties of G6 for the 122nd Corps Support Group and then returned to the 711th Signal Battalion as the Executive Officer. He then went on active duty with the National Guard Bureau and was assigned as a Force Development/Integration Officer at the U. S. Army Signal Center, Fort Gordon, Georgia.
Kemp was promoted to lieutenant colonel and assumed command of the 711th Signal Battalion. Upon completion of command, he spent the next year at the U.S. Army War College. Upon his promotion to colonel, he was assigned to Third U.S. Army/Army Central Command/Coalition Forces Land Component Command in Arifjan, Kuwait, where he also served as the Senior Army National Guard Advisor in theater. He was then assigned to the USPACOM Commander’s staff as the Senior Army National Guard Advisor and the Deputy for Functional Plans and Policy (J57).
In July of 2005, Kemp transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve and was assigned as the G3 for the 311th Signal Command (Theater), where he also served as the chief of staff and deputy commander until his selection as commander of the 657th Area Support group. He was then selected to command the 1st Battle Command Training Group in Costa Mesa, California. His next assignment was to command the 359th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade (TTSB) in Bagram, Afghanistan. In June 2011, he was promoted to brigadier general and continued to serve as brigade commander for the 359th TTSB at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He was then assigned as both the commanding general of the 335th Signal Command Theater) (Provisional) and as the G6, for U.S. Army Central Command in Arifjan, Kuwait. In June 2014, Kemp was selected to command the 335th Signal Command (Theater) in East Point, Georgia.
Kemp is a graduate of the Signal Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Systems Automation Course, Army Force Management Course, Command and General Staff Officers Course, and U.S. Army War College. He completed the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Course and holds his CIO and IT Program Management certifications from the National Defense University.
He holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, and a master's in Public Administration and Military Strategic Studies. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy. Some of his awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, six awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, two awards of the Join Service Commendation Medal, four awards of the Army Commendation Medal, two awards of the Army Achievement Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, and both the Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary medals, and the Combat Action Badge.
In his civilian occupation, Kemp serves as an Enterprise Services Program Manager for Hewlett-Packard. He is married to Cindy and they have two daughters, Haley and Alex.
