Brigadier General R. Andrew Bassford was commissioned as a second lieutenant of Infantry in 1986 through the Georgetown University ROTC program. After graduating the Infantry Officer Basic, Airborne, and Ranger Courses, he served as a Bradley Platoon Leader and Bradley Company Executive Officer with the 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry in Aschaffenburg, Germany from 1987 through 1990.Upon completion of the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, Brigadier General R. Andrew Bassford served as the Battalion Logistics Officer and then as the Headquarters Company Commander for the 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment. In 1994, he became the Regimental Logistics Officer for the 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment through 1995.Leaving Active Duty, Brigadier General Bassford became the Secretary to the General Staff for the 80th Division (IT) from 1998 through 2001. In 2001, he became the Brigade Operations Officer for 8th Brigade, 80th Division (IT), and then became the Brigade Executive Officer for that unit in 2003. From 2005 – 2007, Brigadier General Bassford served as the Command Inspector General for the 311th Theater Signal Command. From 2007- 2009, he commanded the 2d Battalion, 317th Infantry (BCT). From 2009-2011, Brigadier General Bassford commanded the 2d Brigade, 98th Division (IET), was the Assistant Commander for Support for the 108th Training Command (IET) from 2011-2013, and was the Chief of Staff for the 108th Training Command in 2013.Brigadier General Bassford is a graduate of the Army War College, the Jumpmaster Course, the Command and General Staff College, the Inspector General’s Course, and the University of Virginia, School of Law. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (5 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), the Ranger Tab, the Senior Parachutist Badge, and the Expert Infantryman’s Badge.
