Maj. Gen. Darrell J. Guthrie

Commanding General, 88th Readiness Division

Maj. Gen. Guthrie became the Commanding General of the 88th Readiness Division, headquartered at Fort Snelling, Minn., and Fort McCoy, Wis., on July 9, 2020. He is also the Senior Commander for Fort McCoy. He recently commanded U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command.

Guthrie began his military career on May 22, 1985, when he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the United States Army. He is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Civil Affairs Officer Advanced Course, United States Army Command and General Staff College, the Defense Strategy Course, and the Army War College. Guthrie is a distinguished military graduate of the University of Alabama in Birmingham where he received his BS Degree in Business Economics, Texas Tech University where he received a MS in Business (Finance) and a Juris Doctorate, and the U.S. Army War College where he received a Master’s in Strategic Studies.

He has successfully held command and staff positions at company through division, joint and combined headquarters, and in support of the Department of State. His previous duties include Battalion Fire Direction Officer and Platoon Leader, 1-3 Field Artillery, 2nd Armored Division, Fort Hood, Texas; Fire Support Officer, 6-41 Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division, Kitzingen, Germany; Liaison Officer, 6-41 Field Artillery in support of 2nd Squadron, 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment (Desert Shield/Desert Storm); Commander, A Battery, 3-1 Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division, Bamberg, Germany; Combat Developments Coordinator, Force XXI Directorate, TRADOC, Fort Monroe, Virginia; S3, 413th Civil Affairs Battalion and G5 Operations Officer, Multi-National Division – Southwest (United Kingdom), Banja Luka, Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Guthrie is married to the former Shari Rosenstein. They have four children: Pierce and his wife, Katherine and their daughters, Lelia and Hannah; Darrell II and his wife, Daryl; Jean Rose; and Chase.
