T.J. Smith is the Command Sergeant Major of the 335th Signal Command, East Point, GA as of February 2014. He was born and raised in Germany and after entering the Army in 1982 he served on active duty for six years. He is the son and grandson of Soldiers. His previous assignments as a nominative Command Sergeant Major were the 63rd Regional Support Command in Mountain View, CA and the Joint & Special Troops Support Command, Ft. Douglas, UT. He also served as a Command Sergeant Major with the 300th Sustainment Brigade, Grand Prairie, TX; 493rd Engineer Group (Combat), Dallas, TX; 647th Regional Support Group, El Paso, TX; and the 372nd Quartermaster Battalion, Albuquerque, NM. He has held every other noncommissioned officer leadership position, as well as S-2 and S-3 staff assignments. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Unit Commendation with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Action Badge, and the Bronze Star. He served in the Gulf War as a Squad Leader in the 800th Military Police Brigade and in the Iraq War as a Group Command Sergeant Major with the 1st Armored Division’s Engineer Brigade. He holds Bachelor and Associate Degrees in Criminal Justice and is employed as a Deputy Regional Security Chief for the Department of Homeland Security / U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service in Irving, Texas. He resides in Ft. Worth, Texas and is the proud father of five grown children.
