Maj. Gen. Craig A. Bugno was born in Camden, New Jersey. He attended undergraduate school at Taylor University in Upland, Ind., and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology.
He received his medical degree from The Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston and completed a residency in Family Medicine at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Ind. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Medicine.
He is a graduate the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Officer Basic Course, the AMEDD Officer Advanced Course and the United States Army Command and General Staff Officer Course. Bugno entered the Army in 1981 as a 2nd Lt. and served in various assignments with the 3271st U.S. Army Hospital, the 337th General Hospital, and the 337th Combat Support Hospital.
He served as Commander of the 337th Combat Support Hospital, 801st Combat Support Hospital and the Central Region Medical Area Readiness Support Group. General Officer assignments include command of the 2d Medical Brigade, San Pablo, Calif., and his current assignment as Deputy Commander 3d Medical Command (Direct Support), Forest Park, Ga. He was mobilized in support of Operation Joint Endeavor and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He Commanded the US Army Hospital in Kuwait and was Deputy Commander for Clinical Services, U.S. Army Hospital, Abu Ghraib, Iraq.
Bugno's military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with (eight oak leaf clusters), National Defense Service Medal (with bronze star), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with silver hourglass and two M devices) and the Air Assault Badge. He is a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit. In his civilian career, Bugno practices Family Medicine in Fulton, Ind.
He serves as the Fulton County Health Officer and manages the County Health Department. His work experience includes assignments in Child Welfare and Secondary Education.
