Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas W. Jennings was assigned as the command sergeant major of the 84th Training Command on July 12th, 2013. A career Soldier, he has held many leadership positions within the Department of the Army. Jennings enlisted in the U.S Army on Jan. 18, 1982.
As the 84TH TC’s command sergeant major, he serves as the senior enlisted advisor to the commanding general on all enlisted Soldier matters, particularly areas affecting training, leader development, mobilization, employer support, family readiness and support, and quality of life issues. He is a member of the Junior Promotion Board, Soldier Recognition Board, and various professional military organizations. Jennings’ previous assignments include command sergeant major of the 364th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Washington, first sergeant, 257th Transportation Company, Las Vegas, Nev., and Operation Iraqi Freedom; operations sergeant, Company Team Leader Development Course, 63rd Regional Readiness Command, Sacramento, Calif.; command sergeant major, 1st Battalion, 415th Regiment, Phoenix, Ariz.; and command sergeant major, 647th Regional Support Group, El Paso, Texas. He served as command sergeant major of Task Force Rainier during the 364th ESC’s recent deployment to Kuwait.
His military education includes the Military Police Primary Basic Technical Course, the Criminal Investigator’s Course, the Military Police Investigator’s Course, the Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, and the First Sergeant’s Course. Jennings is a July 2006 graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy. Command Sgt. Maj. Jennings received his Bachelor of Science in business management from the University of Phoenix, and has completed numerous civilian law enforcement courses and certifications. He has completed the Defensive Tactics Instructor Course, the Instructor Development Course, the Field Training Officer/Sergeant Course, Law Enforcement Certification, and Intermediate Law Enforcement Certification.
His military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (with one oak leaf cluster), the Army Commendation Medal (with three oak leaf clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), the National Defense Service Medal (with one bronze star), the Southwest Asia Service Medal (with three bronze stars), the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with M device and numeral 2), the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Government of Kuwait), and a variety of service ribbons.
