Major General Glenn J. Lesniak assumed the position as the Deputy Chief, Army Reserve, October 2014 as the senior advisor to the Chief, Army Reserve on policies and programs for the USAR including force structure, Congressional budget and appropriations process, development of manpower and personnel policies, as well as Department of the Army and Department of Defense Matters. He has served for more than 38 years as a commissioned officer in the United States Army and Army Reserve.
Major General Lesniak graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1976. He attended the Engineer Officer Basic Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His initial assignment was Platoon Leader with B Company, 5th Engineer Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. In 1982, he was assigned to the 1st ROTC Region, with duty at the University of Connecticut, as an Assistant Professor of Military Science.
Upon release from active duty in 1984, MG Lesniak relocated to Texas and transferred to the Army Reserve. He joined the 416th Engineer Command RTU at Fort Sam Houston, Texas and served with the Engineer Design section. In 1986, Major General Lesniak moved to New York, and joined the 469th Engineer Battalion (Combat) (Heavy) at Caven Point, New Jersey, where he served from 1987 to 1992, as the Battalion Operations and Executive Officer. From 1993 to 1996, he served with the 411th Engineer Brigade in Brooklyn, New York, as the Civil Engineer Officer and the Brigade Operations Officer. In 1996, he commanded the 854th Engineer Battalion in Kingston, New York. He served as the Construction Management Officer with the 411th Engineer Brigade in New Windsor, New York from 1998 to 2000.
In April 2000, General Lesniak transferred to the 78th Division (Training Support) as the Combat Support Branch Chief and Battle Command and Staff Exercise Director. He again served with the 411th Engineer Brigade as the Deputy Commander. He returned to the 78th Division (Training Support) to command the Battle Projection Group at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Major General Lesniak was assigned as Deputy Commander, 94th Regional Readiness Command in March 2005, and on 2 July 2006 was appointed as the Commanding General, where he served until October 2008. He was then assigned as the Deputy Commander, 81st Regional Support Command (RSC) headquartered at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. His last assignment he commanded the 88th RSC, United States Army Reserve Command at Fort Bragg, North Caroline from June 2009 to September 2014.
His military education includes the Engineer Officer Advanced Course, Command and General Staff College, and the United States Army War College, where he was awarded a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies. He also has a Master of Science Degree in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri-Rolla.
His military awards and decorations include the Distinguish Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, and the Parachutist Badge.
He is married to Jane Mary Lawson. They completely enjoy the company of their son, Brett his wife Jennifer, and their three terrific grandchildren Liam, Declan, and Beibhinn.
