Brig. Gen. Matthew Gebhard

Commanding General, 9th Mission Support Command

Brigadier General Matthew Gebhard enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1988 and later Commissioned on Active Duty in 1993. During a career in both Active and Reserve components his prior duties have included Infantry and Psychological Operations Company-Grade assignments and Commands, Field-Grade Joint Operations assignments, Group Command, and Instructor at the Army War College. His previous General Officer assignments have been Deputy Commanding General at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Special Operations Center of Excellence, and most recently Deputy Commanding General (Operations) at the 63rd Readiness Division, U.S. Army Reserve. 

Operational deployments have included the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, OPERATION JOINT ENDEAVOR NATO Implementation Force in Bosnia, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM attached to the 7th Regiment, 1st Marine Division, and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM- PHILIPPINES with the Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines. Other overseas experience has included an assignment in Germany, and over 20 years in the Indo-Pacific theater.

BG Gebhard is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic and Career Courses, PSYOP Officer Course, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Western Maryland College, Master’s degrees from Duquesne University with study in China, and the Army War College, as well as post-graduate study at the University of Pittsburgh.

Awards and decorations include the Presidential Unit Citation, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Master Combat Action Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and Ranger Tab.
