Command Sgt. Maj. Jonathan P. Harvey

Command Sergeant Major, 350th Civil Affairs Command

Command Sergeant Major Jonathan Harvey is the Command Sergeant Major (CSM) of the 350th Civil Affairs (CA) Command at Information Warfare Training Command Corry Station, FL. He previously served as the CSM of the 151st Theater Information Operations Group (TIOG). 

CSM Harvey was born in Philadelphia, PA. His military service began in 1997 with one station unit training as a combat engineer, serving in C Company, 103rd Engineer Battalion (Mechanized), in Philadelphia, PA. His two mobilizations as an engineer were for Bosnia (2002) and to support Operation Iraqi Freedom (2004). In 2005, CSM Harvey began drilling with units in 11th Psychological Operations (PSYOP) Battalion in advance of a transfer to the United States Army Reserve and reclassification to PSYOP Specialist. Serving in the 305th and 312th PSYOP Companies in Upper Marlboro, MD, for nine years, CSM Harvey supported overseas missions in Korea (2006), Ukraine (2007), and Canada (2014), led PSYOP detachments in combat tours to Iraq (2008) and Afghanistan (2011), and served in leadership positions including Tactical PSYOP Team Leader, Tactical PSYOP Detachment Noncommissioned Officer (NCO)-in-Charge (NCOIC), Tactical PSYOP Product Development Detachment NCOIC, and finally First Sergeant. 

In late 2014, CSM Harvey mobilized to the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, NC, where he served as a doctrine writer and NCOIC of the Doctrine Division within the PSYOP Commandant’s Office for two years. Upon leaving that position in 2016, CSM Harvey took a First Sergeant position with the 1002nd CA and PSYOP Training Company at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ. He served there until his 2018 promotion to Sergeant Major in an exercise branch within 84th Training Command (Unit Readiness) at Fort Bliss, TX. He mobilized in 2019 to attend the residential Sergeants Major Course Class 70 at the NCO Leadership Center of Excellence, also in Fort Bliss, TX. After graduation, CSM assumed an operations sergeant major position with 2nd Brigade (Transportation Corps), 94th Training Division (Force Sustainment), 80th Training Command (The Army School System [TASS]), in Fort Lee, VA. In 2022 he became the CSM for 5th Battalion, 98th Regiment (CA and PSYOP), a TASS schoolhouse battalion in Edison, NJ. In October 2024, CSM Harvey returned to U.S. Army CA and PSYOP Command (Airborne) when he assumed responsibility for the 151st TIOG at Fort Totten in Queens, NY. 

CSM Harvey’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Civilian Service Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Expeditionary Medal, GWOT Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal, the Army Driver and Mechanic Badge (Wheeled Vehicle), the MG Robert McClure medallion, the International March of Diekirch Medal, and the Norwegian Footmarch badge. He was a residential fellow in the Army People Seminar (2021-2022) and a nonresidential fellow with Joint Special Operations University (2023-2024).

CSM Harvey received a bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000. He also has a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a post-graduate diploma from the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. He spent ten years as an information technology specialist at a law school and a cancer research center before becoming a government contractor and eventually a Civilian Marine in the information operations workforce. He is currently the Deputy Director of the Vandegrift Team, the Marine Corps’ Strategic Coordination Cell within the Deputy Commandant for Information.  CSM Harvey lives in Northern Virginia and has two children in high school.
