Command Sergeant Major Jackie D. Cottrell serves as the Command Sergeant Major for the 103d ESC located in Des Moines, Iowa. He serves as the senior enlisted advisor to the Commanding General on all enlisted Soldier matters, particularly the areas affecting readiness, training, safety, leader development, and Army Families. He also carries out policies and standards on performance, training, appearance, and conduct of Soldiers.
CSM Cottrell has demonstrated continued dedication and loyalty to Soldiers throughout his military career by serving in positions of increasing responsibility and leadership. He served as the CSM of the 3rd BDE (OD), 94th TD (FS), Rear DET CSM of the 310th ESC, CSM of the 643rd Regional Support Group, CSM of the 633rd Quartermaster Battalion, CSM of the 321st Ordnance Battalion, and CSM of the 325th Combat Support Hospital. He served as a SGM in the 301st Regional Support Group as the Operations SGM, and in the 81st Readiness Division as the G7 SGM.
Command Sergeant Major Cottrell’s mobilizations and deployments include deploying with 1st BN 187th INF to Kosovo in 2000, deployed with the 101st Airborne Division Detachment to Iraq in 2003, deployed with the 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) to Iraq from July 2007 thru June 2008, and deployed with the 643rd Regional Support Group to Ft Hood, Texas as the Hood Mobilization Brigade CSM from March 2019 thru March 2020.
Command Sergeant Major Cottrell attended Basic Training at Ft Dix, NJ and AIT at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama in 1991. CSM Cottrell is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 37 non-resident). He is also a graduate of the The Army School System (TASS) Leader Course, First Sergeants Course, Advance Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Brigade Pre-Command Course, Sustainment Pre-Command Course, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Course I and II, Structured Self Development V, Distributed Leaders Course VI, Rappel Master Course, and Air Assault School.

In his civilian life, he is a Retired Sergeant with the Kentucky State Police. His civilian awards include the Governor of Kentucky’s Honorary Kentucky Colonel. He is married to Tish Cottrell and they live in Morehead, Kentucky. They have a 26-year-old daughter, Brianna. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Kaplan University.
