Brigadier General Clint A. Barnes received an ROTC commission from Marion Military Institute, Marion, AL. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Trevecca Nazerene University in Nashville, TN; a Master of Business Administration from Keller Graduate School in Atlanta, GA; and a Master of Science in National Security and Strategic Studies from National War College at National Defense University in Washington, D.C.
Brig. Gen. Barnes has served in the Army National Guard (ARNG) in three states; Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. BG Barnes joined the Army Reserve in May 2001. Upon his assignment to the Army Reserve, he served as the S1 and Adjutant, 2125th Garrison Support Unit (USAR on Active Duty) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He also served as Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2125th Garrison Support Unit at Fort Bragg, NC.
In October 2004, he transferred to Headquarters, First U.S. Army at Fort Gillem, Georgia where he served as Medical Holdover Team Chief. In July 2006, he became the Executive Officer and Aide-de-Camp to the Deputy Commanding General, First U.S. Army. From January 2008 to January 2010, Brig. Gen. Barnes was assigned to U.S. Army Reserve Command at Fort McPherson, Georgia where he was the Unit Mobilization Officer.
From January 2011 through August 2013, Brig. Gen. Barnes was assigned to the 4th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He held multiple positions to include Deputy Chief, Supply and Services (Afghanistan); Chief of Operations; and Acting G3, Deputy Chief of Staff -Operations. From August 2013 through August 2014, Brig. Gen. Barnes served as an Investigator in the office of The Inspector General, Department of the Army, at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. where he investigated IG cases with allegations against senior Army officials. From 2014-2016, he served as Commander, 2nd Battalion, Army Reserve Careers Division, Coraopolis, PA.
In 2017, Brig. Gen. Barnes joined The Joint Staff at the National Military Command Center, Pentagon in Washington, D.C, J-35, Joint Operations Division Americas as a Defense Support to Civil Authorities Operations Officer. In June 2018, he was further assigned within The Joint Staff to the J4 as Division Chief, Counter-Terrorism, Joint Logistics Operations Center. In June 2019, he became the J4 Division Chief for Strategic Policy and Assessments.
In June 2020, Brig. Gen. Barnes became the Office, Chief Army Reserve, Director of Operations and Readiness, G-33, at The Pentagon and Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
From August 2021 through July 2023, Brig. Gen. Barnes served as commander of the 303rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Honolulu, Hawaii.
From July 2023 through October 2024, Brig. Gen. Barnes served the Chief of Staff of 9th Mission Support Command, Fort Shafter Flats, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Brig. Gen.
